Once Upon a Time, I had a blog. . . . . when my kids were still in preschool, kindergarten & elementary school. These are "diary entries" from then. I'm so happy that I documented along the way. These memories and thoughts are precious to me. They'll be mixed in with modern day musings as well. I hope it helps you know that all mothers are both perfect & imperfect in their own ways. . . . . and we're all just doing our best and trying to raise productive, happy humans.

First Thankful Thursday Post | January 27, 2011

Dear Diary,
There are many reasons to be thankful.  Here are mine from JANUARY 27, 2011

"Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgiving, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings." --William Arthur Ward

Before Thanksgiving last year, our church passed out booklets called "20 days, One hundred Ways 2 Praise".  We were supposed to write down 5 things each day for which we were thankful.   I had a hard time keeping up.  Not that there weren't many things for which I could be thankful, but it's hard to pick just 5 things and remember to write them down.  From now on, I will try to write 5 things that I'm thankful for on Thursdays.

The quote above was one of the quotes in our booklet.  I like it because so many times I feel overwhelmed by all the ordinary day to day things that it takes to run a household.  It becomes "work" too many days instead of something to be enjoyed.  I am thankful for all of it.  I posted on Facebook one time that the next time I had to do another pile of laundry, I will be thankful that I have clothes.  The next time I have to do the dishes(for the 3rd time that day), I will be thankful I have food to eat on those dishes.  I can't remember the other things I said right now, but you get the point.  Sometimes, when you see the piles of clothes and dishes and you can't see the floor in the kids' rooms because of stuff thrown everywhere and you're constantly cleaning the bathroom because the kids can't,  ummm. . . get things in the right places, it just becomes too much.  So, I will try to be thankful for all of it from now on!

I love The Veggie Tales movie "Madame Blueberry".  There is a song in the movie called "Thankful Heart".  I love the words in this song.  It says that a "Thankful Heart is a Happy Heart".  Here's to hoping all of our hearts will be happy!

And with all that said, here is my list for this week:
  1. I am thankful that my husband had fun on his weekend away and that he made it back to us safely.
  2. I am thankful that J wants to snuggle with me still.
  3. I am thankful that I stayed within my newly imposed food budget for January.
  4. I am thankful for all of my new friends.
  5. I am thankful that I'm capable of learning new things every day!

"The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped.  My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song."  Psalm 28:7 (NIV)
